What is Genitourinary disease?

The genitourinary system, or urogenital system, is the organs of the reproductive system and urinary systems’ organs. These are often grouped because of their proximity to each other, their embryological origin, and the pathways they share, such as the urethra. This condition results in bladder infections like urinary tract infections and urinary incontinence.

What is Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)?

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)occurs when the prostate becomes enlarged. The enlargement happens when the cells of the prostate gland begin to replicate. The additional cells cause the prostate to swell, which squeezes the urethra and limits the flow of urine.

What are the symptoms of BPH?

Symptoms of BPH include incomplete emptying of the bladder during urination, excessive need to urinate during the night, incontinence, sudden urge to urinate, and bloody or painful urination.

What is prostatitis?

Prostatitis is inflammation of the prostate, which can also spread to the areas around the prostate. Prostatitis can be short-term or long-term and may be caused by bacterial infections.

What are the symptoms of prostatitis?

Symptoms of prostatitis include pain in the lower abdomen, lower back, or rectum, difficulty urinating, pain with urinating, chills, and fevers.

What is the cure or treatment for prostatitis?

Bacterial prostatitis can be treated with antibiotics. The symptoms of non-bacterial prostatitis can be treated with pain relievers or alpha-blockers.

Skilled nurses at Signature Health services provide post-operative patients with specific information about drinking/eating, caring for drainage tubes, skin and wound care, ambulation, self-care, and signs and symptoms that require medical attention. Nursing care includes written information and demonstrations of such activities as care for wounds and drains.

During the post-operative or chronic care period, our nurses serve as a source of information and monitor patient progress. Follow-up calls and visits to patients and families after surgery are essential in determining the patient’s welfare, offering suggestions for managing the patient’s care, and learning if any complications are developing. At the same time, Signature’s nurses can assess the psychological condition of the patient and their adjustment to a new way of living and suggest any needed resources.
